Basilica of St Francis of Assisi: Entrance + Video Guide

Upgrade your visit to the mother church with top audio and video enhancement

Visited every year by more than 5 million people, the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi is one of the main points of interest in the city of Umbria. In the 13th-century Italian-Gothic basilica you can find the crypt with the fully intact body of the saint, and paintings of some of the most noted artists of the time: Giotto, Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, and Simone Martini.

Continuing your visit of Assisi, you will reach the medieval Piazza del Comune around which stands the Temple of Minerva, dating back to the 1st century BC, a true jewel of ancient art. Exiting the square, and going straight to the right, you'll find yourself in front of the New Church, built in the 18th century on the home of St. Francis. When you reach the church, you'll arrive at the Oratory of St. Francis Piccolino, where according to the legend the Holy One was born.

Don't forget to taste some of the traditional dishes: Pecorino cheese and Ciauscolo (a spreading salami), homemade pasta and the medieval Rocciata (a cake stuffed with apples, hazelnuts, nuts and raisins) are waiting for you!
