The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is owned by Real Madrid. The head office of the club is located here and hosts all official meetings. Designed by the architect José María Castell, construction work began on Oct. 27, 1944. Originally called New Stadium Chamartin, it was inaugurated on Dec. 14, 1947. It was renamed on Jan. 4, 1955 in honor of the great president Santiago Bernabeu. The stadium houses the Real Madrid Museum, as well as numerous restaurants and the club's official store. The Stadium is easily accessible by public transport. In the immediate vicinity is the Bernabeu metro station, on line 10. It opened a few days before the World Cup of 1982.
